Underrated Beauty Products Review

Today's post will be in regards of some underrated beauty products. Both skincare and cosmetics will be included here. Just a short introduction, I have an oily skin type, having enlarged pores on my nose area. I do not have sensitive skin, nor am I prone to acne.

Alright I shall start on the topic of what I have been trying out the past few months of 2015.

Firstly, I would like to introduce a clay mask from Etude House. I have been tempting to purchase clay masks from Glamglow, which is a Hollywood brand loved by many Hollywood stars, however the price of it is a little hefty thus I got myself an Etude House's clay mask. I know the hype about Innisfree's super volcanic clay mask, however I have tried when my sister bought it and it did not work much on me.
Etude House Wonder Pore Ultra Clay Pack

This retails for SGD$25 in the Etude House stores in Singapore. When I tried the first time, I did not like it as I kept touching the dried mask with my bare hands as I was curious about the texture after the mask has dried. However, when I tried the second time, I first applied to my problematic areas which are my T-zone and my cheeks as the pores are large and clogged mainly there. I spreaded it evenly and did not touch my face until I felt that it was 90% dried up. I used cotton pads, soaked with water to wipe off the dried clay mask. Take note, you will feel a bit of tugging when you are removing it, however, the results after removing the mask is amazing. My pores are cleared up, minimized, and after this clay mask, I quickly applied a thick layer of the extremely popular sleeping mask from Laneige. I have noticed that without using this clay mask, the sleeping mask actually absorbs slower as compared to using this clay mask before using the sleeping mask. In my opinion, this mask is really underrated compared to the famous Innisfree's one, which does not provide as deep cleanse as compared to this Etude House's one.

My verdict for this product:

It is suitable for oily to very oily skin people as it will be drying for people with dry to normal skin.

For the price, it is considered as rather affordable for students as it is only required to use once per week on problem areas.

It cleanses deeply, leaving skin feeling tight and clean after removal of the clay mask which some people might like, while some others might dislike.

Not suitable for people with sensitive skin as it leaves a bit of redness after removal of mask.

Rating: 4.5/5 as I do not have sensitive skin, and I have very oily skin.

The second product I would like to recommend will be a makeup base. This is only sold in selected stores such as BHG, John Little and Tokyu Hands in Singapore.
SANA Keana Pate Pore Putty Makeup Base

This retails SGD$23.90 if I am not wrong, or $19.90. This product is actually widely endorsed in Japan, one of the best selling drugstore brands makeup base. It brightens, conceals pores, and has a SPF 50 PA ++++. It does not have much oil control properties in it, however it helps in the longevity of the base makeup, and the covering of pores without clogging them too much. This is a product not advertised or known in Singapore, hence I would like to share that this is a good makeup base for combination dry skin to slightly oily skin. Normal skin type are suitable too as this is not a very mattifying product nor is it too moisturizing.

I normally will use this after my moisturizer, and before my other base makeup products. Although this does not help in the oil control, it works well in brightening and concealing pores. Moreover, the high SPF will allow me to save on the step on applying sunscreen after moisturizer, a 3 in 1 makeup base in my opinion. I normally uses a makeup base, foundation, concealer and an oil control powder. Hence, a makeup base that has not much of oil control properties is actually fine for me. I have been using this base for everyday wear before my other steps of makeup for the past 1.5 months, and it is a good affordable makeup base.

My verdict on this product:

This is a makeup base that suits almost all skin types, and saves on money for purchasing an additional sunscreen, which is enough for normal everyday wear for school, work, or a normal day out.

It does everything well that it has claimed, the brightening, pores blurring, and helps in the lasting power of foundation.

Rating: 4.5/5 as it does what it claims.

The third product that I will be introducing and recommending will be a makeup remover. It is not the affordable range of products, however, investing in cleansing products is important as it is the key for the absorption power of other products.

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

It retails for SGD $52 in all Sephora stores in Singapore. Yes, it sounds not affordable at all to many people, particularly students and ordinary office workers. However, this jar lasts for 3 to 4 months, depending on the usage that you are using. If you apply makeup daily, it will last for 3 to 4 months, because this removes ALL makeup, even waterproof ones, hence you do not need an additional eye and lip makeup remover. Thus, it is actually in fact rather affordable as you do not need cotton pads to use this as well. It removes every trace of makeup very well, and after that, using a gentle facial cleanser is enough for an everyday night time cleansing routine. In my opinion, striking a balance in the amount you spend in cosmetics with the amount you spend on skincare is very important. Some people might be spending thousands of dollars in just cosmetics, while maybe $100 for a year's supply of skincare. My personal opinion will be, using a good skincare will actually allows your skin to be less reliant on cosmetics, especially base products. Thus, depending on each person's spending power, this is a good investment if you are someone who is very particular with taking care of your skin. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. So if you start investing in skincare products earlier, it will not be as difficult in maintaining it when you get older. While people spend thousands of dollars going for a few sessions of facial treatment and worry when they reach 40 or 50 years old, people who started as early as 18 years old would not need to go for facial treatments when they reach middle age. Therefore, once again, i would emphasize that if you were to pick to either purchase expensive products of either cosmetics or skincare, I would suggest to purchase better quality but not necessary breaking your bank of skincare products.

My verdict on this product:

It is very gentle as what it has claimed, it has removed ALL traces of makeup very well, it lasts a decent amount of time depending on how frequent of a makeup user you are, suits ALL skin types.

Rating: 4/5 as the price may not be affordable, however comparing to the quality it produces, it is well worth the price.

Thank you for reading the entire post, xoxo.
